Having been involved in the breeding of the yellow form of Clivia miniata for nearly 30 years, Cape Seed and Bulb are among the pioneers in the field development and promotion of selected forms of Clivia miniata var.citrina, and they won many international prizes.
We have been exporters of seed of the yellow Clivia to Japan and Europe for the last 20 years, and to the USA through 'Gardening by Mail' since 1990.
Our yellow seed breeds 100% true and results from crosses of our best yellows onto our yellow seed stock plants.

Our seed supply season is April to December. We only harvest seed when an order is confirmed. This ensures that the seed is fresh when received by customers, resulting in faster germination.

Please remember: Clivia seedlings vary considerably, especially the pastel and white cultivars.

The characteristics of our clones are as follows:
Mature plants normally give 2 flower stems per plant at a time.

  • Flower stems protrude well above the foliage.
  • Flowers have a light vanilla fragrance.
  • Mature plants normally bear 30 flowers or more on a head.
  • Well-grown plants flower after 3 season's growth.
  • Foliage is lush, strong and dark green in colour.

Our plants are 3-4 years old and mature. Most bulbs and plants are dispatched from January to April.
